Deliverables
For my senior capstone assignment, I had to find an exploratory question I could design a series of deliverables around. I decided that I would watch the films that had been nominated for the Oscars’ Best Animated Feature category to select winners for years in which there was evidence pointing to the Academy selecting a film that wasn’t the best of the pool of choices. Following this, I would use this research to design several deliverables to inform the audience of my findings, as well as celebrate the films that I had designated a new award status.
Project Description
Infographics
My initial version laid out all the information, with a successful layout so my audience could understand the purpose properly. What was lacking was that this version was meant to be the template for all the other infographics, with all the same colors. This wouldn’t be very interesting if they all were fully the same in color.
This revision removes the title at the top in exchange for the movie headers becoming the title, as well as swapping out text for the logos of the respective movies. In addition, the colors have been changed to be suit the relevant movie, and illustrative elements have been added around the text boxes to lead the viewer’s eye.
The final version of this infographic switches the first three sections with the statistics section for the purpose of creating a bit of unity between the longer written parts with bright backgrounds to the more graphic-focused parts with the dark background. Also, it continues to help the viewer’s eyes from being distracted.
Illustration Cards
My idea was to present illustrations of the main character(s) of the film I had chosen to win accepting their award in a way that was appropriate to the award show setting. I chose to use a card format as a means to keep it temporarily secret what the winner may be until it was opened up by the viewer.
Highlight Reel
Website
To incorporate the film review side of this into the project, I landed on designing a website that would house all the reviews I wrote for the films watched. This would feature a classic 5-star rating scale with written reviews for films separated by their respective years.
This sheet would be displayed for viewers of the presentation to view the website on their phones.
Award Plaques
To accompany the illustrations of these films’ characters accepting their award, I thought I would help the audience visualize a tangible version of those awards. For this, I designed personalized plaques to attach to trophies.
