When prompted to select a story from the public domain to adapt into a children’s book, I was unsure what to choose. Even though I hadn’t actually seen Disney’s 1991 film, I gravitated towards Beauty and the Beast by Gabrielle-Suzanne de Villeneuve. During this time, I would read the original, write a cut-down version, and make minor alterations.
